Microsoft Office applications now have a new identity. As part of the major overhaul of the platform, Microsoft felt the need to provide Office applications with a new logo reflecting the major changes that have recently occurred in Office.
The new icons represent a major step forward from the current Office icons. So far, Microsoft has made only iterative adjustments to the identity of its Office applications, but this year's updates seem pretty big.
In terms of design, Microsoft is focused on making the logos "builders, lighter and more user-friendly." The redrawn icons are also very pretty. For example, the Word icon has two panels, one with the letter W, the other with blocks of blue. which are supposed to represent text. OneNote, on the other hand, contains the tabs of the notebook, Excel displaying the cells of the spreadsheet and PowerPoint graphics.
And the new OneDrive icon? It's just a cloud.
Here is a video showing the new icons in action. Interestingly, at some point in the video, Microsoft displays the new Windows 10 Start Menu icons, as well as other Windows 10 applications such as Mail, Photos, News, Calculator, Calendar, and so on. which could also become new logos.

For the new icons, we chose bolder, lighter and more user-friendly hues – a nod to the evolution of Office, "said Jon Friedman, head of design at Microsoft Office, detailing the Design of the new desktop application icons.
Microsoft will begin deploying new Office icons starting with mobile and web applications in the coming months, and then through other platforms.
