Microsoft is holding back the compatibility of its Windows 10 May 2019 update for some of its Surface Book 2 laptops because of a problem due to which the discrete Nvidia GPU may disappear from the device manager on the system. Operation, which may result in the emergence of applications on this GPU to have problems, via ZDNet.
The problem is with a small subset of Surface Book 2 devices (only top-of-the-line models with discrete Nvidia GPUs), but it is even more remarkable that it occurs on Microsoft's internal hardware. However, until the company resolves the issue, Surface Book 2 owners with Nvidia hardware will not be able to download the May 2019 update.
This is not the first problem Microsoft has encountered with the May 2019 update: ZDNet points out that the company had to issue a similar blocking for devices with a USB storage device or an SD card, due to "improper reader reassignments during installation". Fortunately, the solution was simpler in this case: just unplug your external storage during installation.
