When Microsoft brought back the IntelliMouse Explorer – one of the most iconic mice ever made – I lamented that the company apparently was not taking any notice of the device's gaming performance. Players are the ones who most fondly remember the mouse for its form and performance, as some still use the classic mouse nowadays. Most people probably would not even remember the name of the mouse.
It seems that Microsoft has heard my complaints. The company today launched the $ 60 Pro Intellimouse, which retains the classic shape of its predecessor while adding user-friendly features, such as a new sensor, enhanced key activation, customizable buttons, and a gradient finish texture. There is even a lonely RGB light this time around.
Specifically, this sensor is a Pixart 3389, making it the first IntelliMouse to not use a sensor designed by Microsoft. It's probably for the best; Pixart is known for probably making the best gaming sensors on the market. They are used in Logitech mice, Razer, SteelSeries, Zowie and more.
Unlike the Microsoft BlueTrack sensor of the IntelliMouse 2017, the Pixart 3389 does not limit your gaming performance. The relevant variable is therefore the quality of the design and construction of the mouse.
Given the number of people who like the classic form of IntelliMouse Explorer, I think the new Intellimouse will be a real success. At $ 60, the price seems right too. You can take one now in the Microsoft Store or pre-order on Amazon for June 5th.
