Microsoft has been working hard since the announcement of the death of the old Edge browser. The new Chromium-based Edge has been in development testing for several months, but the first public beta release is available today. Just go to the Microsoft landing page to download the new browser. Although Microsoft says it's still a beta, Chromium Edge is ready for everyday use.

Since the launch of Windows 10, Microsoft has pushed the Edge browser to become a more effective alternative to the market-leading browser, Chrome or Firefox. Microsoft has written blog posts, videos and even exploited popups in Windows to encourage users to use Edge. Finally, Microsoft decided that it was not worthwhile to continue developing its custom EdgeHTML engine. Last year, he announced that he would rebuild Edge in addition to the free Google Chrome source code.

Microsoft launched the first versions of Chromium Edge in April, but it was unstable channels Canary and Dev. Still, they have been downloaded over a million times and Microsoft has received over 140,000 comments. Canary received updates every day and the dev channel received them every week. The new beta is the first adapted to ordinary people. It receives major updates every six weeks, leaving Microsoft time to make sure there are no unfortunate bugs to deploy to the testers.

Chromium Edge has all the features you expect from a beta channel browser. You can link your Microsoft account, install extensions, save passwords, and more. This looks more like Chrome than the old Edge, but the theme is better suited for Windows. The developers are so convinced that the beta is ready to be used that Microsoft has made it a part of its bug bonus program. Developers and researchers are free to analyze the vulnerabilities of the new browser and report them to Microsoft. A serious flaw could bring the discoverer up to $ 15,000.

For now, users should always look for the updated Edge Browser because it is still a preview product. Microsoft will eventually add a stable channel to bundle with Windows. We do not know when it will happen, though. Microsoft had promised to add important features such as IE mode and a unified privacy page to the May Build conference. However, there is no sign of those of the first beta. Microsoft will probably want to run them via the beta channel before migrating everyone to the new browser via Windows updates. We are betting on the availability of early 2020 for the stable channel.
