Microsoft sells ugly MS Paint sweater, part of profits goes to Girls Who Code

Microsoft is getting into the holiday spirit a little early by offering an “ugly” sweater on the theme of MS Paint for sale on its online store, with a portion of the proceeds from each sale donated to Girls Who Code. In the past, the company has made Windows XP and 95 sweaters to give away to influencers and super fans, but this is the first time the company has sold a sweater directly to customers.

There were briefly three varieties of Microsoft soft-wear available for purchase this morning: the previously mentioned MS Paint sweater and the leftover Windows 95 and XP sweaters. When we first checked the store these XP and 95 sweaters were already out of stock, and at the moment only this year’s MS Paint sweater is available. You can check out all three varieties in the gallery below to see what you might have missed.

Microsoft has had fun with these promotions in the past, even packing the old Windows XP sweater in a Windows XP-style box.

Since MS Paint is installed on Windows rather than sold separately, it’s unclear how exactly this year’s sweater will be packaged, but hopefully Microsoft’s goofy trend continues. It is clear that the company has fans of sweaters among its ranks; maybe it’s a bit latent in the influence of Bill Gates?

Bill Gates wears a sweater, as he often does.

Regardless of the source, the MS Paint sweater is still in stock for $ 69.99 each, with $ 20 of each sale going direct to Girls Who Code starting today, Dec. 1 through 23. Microsoft has announced plans to donate a minimum of $ 50,000 to the non-profit organization through this promotion. If you are not familiar, Girls Who Code is a nonprofit organization dedicated to attracting more women into the IT field by offering courses and educational resources.

The relative ugliness of these sweaters is up for debate (I personally think the MS Paint sweater looks pretty good), but if you’re nostalgic for the Windows of yore, now you can set yourself up in time for a digital party. Keeping the theme, Microsoft also provides Windows and MS Paint backgrounds for Skype and Teams, if you want to look like you’re trapped in a drawing you made on your parents’ computer during the video chat.

You can buy the Ugly MS Paint Sweater now and benefit a good cause.
