Microsoft sells Xbox mini fridge after Twitter win

A few weeks ago, the Xbox team shared an Xbox-branded mini fridge that, as you can imagine, everyone wanted to buy one – me included. Sprinkle a Twitter poll and a bunch of votes later and you can buy one soon but we don’t know all the details yet.

How it happened is that Twitter marketing was running a ‘March MadnessBrands that use Twitter and the finale have boiled down to Xbox vs Skittles. Both brands are popular on Twitter and so began the battle for the most votes: it was a simple 1 vote per user and the brand with the most votes would win after 24 hours.

Skittles was proposing to bring back the lime flavor for the green, but Xbox mainly used its large number of subscribers to boost its votes, but after nearly 200,000 votes the score was tied.

Because I want an Xbox mini fridge and at that time Microsoft had not publicly announced their intention to market it, I tweeted to Aaron Greenberg that Microsoft should push back on Skittles’ Lime-flavored deal with an official Xbox Mini-Fridge sale offer if you win.

Greenberg responded a few minutes later with “challenge accepted” and soon after he made it official that Microsoft would build the mini-fridges if they won the poll.

Fast forward to this morning and Xbox was able to take the win with a very small margin of votes, but a win is a win and therefore Xbox will be offering the refrigerators for sale in the future – we don’t. have no timeline for the release quite yet.

Now when all of this happened, I thought Microsoft was going to bring the mini-fridges for sale because of how quickly it all came together on Twitter last night. You usually don’t commit to putting something into production without some legwork to get it approved, align funding, and all the other commercial aspects that need to happen before you make such an announcement, but I was wrong.

After Xbox won the poll, Greenberg confirmed that it was my tweet (above) that made this a reality. So when you pull out a cool drink from your next mini-fridge, think of me… or not, but anyway, a fun story to share.
