Following complaints from a number of users regarding audio issues in the games, Microsoft acknowledged that the update KB4515384 for Windows 10 version 1903 was to blame.

The company is currently working on a patch that should be released later this month. In the meantime, however, he suggested temporary solutions for people irritated by sound problems.

An update of the support article for KB4515384 reads as follows: "Microsoft has received information that the audio in some games is quieter or different than expected after the installation of this update. At the request of some of our audio partners, we have implemented a compatibility change that allows some games to query the support and render multichannel audio.

It continues:

Due to customer feedback, we are canceling this change because some games and devices do not render multichannel audio as expected. This may result in a different gaming sound than customers are accustomed to and missing channels.

People affected by the problem have suggested various workarounds in the past few days, but Microsoft has its own tips – which hopefully will guide you until the patch is ready:

To solve the problem, open the relevant game settings and disable multichannel audio, if this option is available. You can also search in Windows Control Panel disable multichannel audio or virtual surround sound if these options are available.

No specific date for the update has yet been revealed, but Microsoft says "we are working on a resolution and believe that a solution will be available by the end of September".
