Microsoft today released its annual sustainability report, and Minecraft developer Mojang decided to turn it into something interactive. Simply called “sustainable city”, the new Minecraft the map is available for free download in the Minecraft marketplace, and it has also been added to the educational branch of the game.
The card has six included lessons, which Mojang says are “designed to give students a sense of stewardship of the planet.” The lessons cover topics such as sustainable food production, water flow and treatment, and responsible forestry. One lesson asks players to explore a house built entirely from sustainable materials; another takes them to a landfill to learn what happens to non-recyclable materials.
The educational version of Minecraft has been around since 2016, but it has become particularly popular in recent times due to the increase in distance learning. At present, Microsoft claims that more than 35 million students and teachers are licensed to use the platform.
