Microsoft is discreetly updating its basic Surface Book 2 model today. The computer giant introduces Intel's latest 8th generation i5 quad-core processor for the 13-inch Surface Book 2, while maintaining the 7th generation dual-core model at a discounted price of $ 1,299. The updated quad-core model will cost $ 1,499 and includes an i5-8350U that increases the processor's maximum boost clock speed up to 3.6 GHz.

The new Mid-Range Surface Book 2 will also include 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM. The processor is the only significant change, but it should make a big difference in performance. The performance of the Surface Pro 6 quad-core models has been impressive compared to the dual-core chips used in previous models. Microsoft has quietly launched this new model today, following rumors that the company was considering updating the Surface Book 2.

Microsoft is also hosting a Surface event on April 17 in New York. The company should detail the prices and availability of its Surface Hub 2 hardware, as well as associated Steelcase accessories and office furniture. The Verge will cover the Microsoft Surface event, so stay tuned for all the news.
