Microsoft’s sustainability report is much more interesting as a ‘Minecraft’ map

As for the report itself? Microsoft has said it is making progress, although clearly there are years to go before it hits its targets. Slightly closer to becoming carbon negative after achieving 1 million metric tonnes of carbon removal for fiscal 2021, and closer to becoming water positive after investing 700 times more in projects water replenishment in 2020. The tech giant has also been successful in reducing waste and forming partnerships to protect fragile ecosystems.

Unsurprisingly, you won’t find many of these numbers in the Minecraft map, and Microsoft clearly doesn’t expect this project to become a sensation. It’s not a classic save planet action game, after all. Nonetheless, it could be successful if even a handful of people thought about sustainability in practical terms.
