Microstrategy continues to develop its Bitcoin reserve

Pro-bitcoin software company Microstrategy announced Monday that it has bought more bitcoin. CEO Michael Saylor tweeted:

Microstrategy purchased an additional 5,050 bitcoins for ~ $ 242.9 million in cash at an average price of around $ 48,099 per bitcoin. As of 12/9/21, we had acquired ~ 114,042 bitcoin for ~ $ 3.16 billion at an average price of ~ $ 27,713 per bitcoin.

The company also informed the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of its bitcoin purchase on Monday. The record indicates that in the third quarter, Microstrategy “purchased approximately 8,957 bitcoin for approximately $ 419.9 million in cash, at an average price of approximately $ 46,875 per bitcoin including fees and expenses.”

The 8,957 BTC figure includes the 3,907 BTC purchase announced in August.

Last week, Saylor revealed that his company avoided “a multibillion-dollar mistake” by choosing to invest in bitcoin instead of gold.
