Midwestern Pet Foods Issues Recall Over Salmonella Concerns

Midwestern Pet Foods, Inc. is issuing another pet food recall at one of its manufacturing facilities, although this time around it is salmonella.

The recently besieged company issued a voluntary recall over the weekend for certain dog and cat food products produced at its Monmouth, Illinois facility, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said in an opinion.

The notice came shortly after the FDA revealed that hundreds of pets had been killed or become ill after consuming the company’s products made at a separate facility in Oklahoma.

In its latest review, a handful of dog and cat food brands including CanineX, Earthborn Holistic, Venture, Unrefined, Sportmix Wholesomes, Pro Pac, Pro Pac Ultimates, Sportstrail, Sportmix and Meridian have the “potential to be contaminated. by Salmonella, “according to the agency.

The affected products have been distributed to retail stores nationwide and online retailers, according to the notice. However, this particular recall only covers “certain products manufactured at the Midwestern Pet Foods facility in Monmouth, Illinois” which may be identified in the date code with an “M”.

The recall was issued after routine sampling found “the products may contain the bacteria,” the advisory said. However, no illnesses in pets or owners have been reported to date.

In both cases, authorities urged owners to wash and disinfect pet food storage bowls, cups and containers and to call their veterinarian if they believe their pet has been exposed to salmonella. or aflatoxin.

In its latest recall, retailers and distributors should immediately remove affected products from their store shelves and inventory.

“Do not sell or give away the recalled products,” read the notice.
