Miesha Tate has successfully returned to MMA competition.

The former UFC and Strikeforce bantamweight champion stopped veteran Marion Reneau in her UFC comeback fight on Saturday on ESPN 26. Tate (19-7 MMA, 6-4 UFC) defeated Reneau (9-8-1 MMA, 5-7-1 UFC) via TKO at 1:53 of the third round.

The women’s bantamweight bout was the main UFC co-event on ESPN 26 at UFC Apex in Las Vegas. It aired on ESPN and aired on ESPN +.

It was a dominant projection of the Tate.

In the first round, Tate was happy to keep the fight on his feet. The two fighters connected and had their moments, but Tate was doing most of the pressure and damage. Halfway through, Tate reduced the distance and pinned Reneau against the cage. Little action took place before combat resumed in the Strike Department. With a minute to go, Tate got an out and went to half-guard to end the round.

The second, Reneau started well, keeping his distance and tagging Tate from afar. However, halfway through the round, Tate got an out. The former UFC title holder maintained control while landing on the ground on Reneau. “The Belizean Bruiser” did a good job of avoiding major damage while being at the bottom, but couldn’t get back on his feet.

The final round was all Tate. She injured her feet and was able to take the fight to the ground again. From there, she poured the ground and the pound, forcing the ref to call the fight and award Tate the TKO victory.

Tate retired from the sport in 2016 after suffering a decision loss to Raquel Pennington at UFC 205. Tate walked away from the sport on a two-game losing streak, which marked the end of his run. as the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion. “Cupcake” lost the belt to current champion Amanda Nunes at UFC 200 in July 2016.

The 34-year-old didn’t call anyone after her win over Reneau, but made it clear that she plans to keep fighting.

For Reneau, the loss marked his last MMA fight. The 44-year-old fighter previously announced she would be retiring after UFC on ESPN 26. Reneau is stepping away from the sport with notable wins over Sara McMann and Jessica Andrade.
