Sorrentino, 38, was sentenced to eight months in prison for tax evasion in 2018 and fined $ 10,000 and 500 hours of collective labor.
"I'm glad he's released," CNR's New Jersey lawyer Richard Sapinski, a Sorrentino representative, told CNN. "I love Michael, I'm glad the case is settled, I wish him luck."
According to the indictment, Sorrentino did not intentionally declare the amount of real income received to the accounting company that he had used and provided him with a list of false or inflated professional expenses . In 2012, he submitted a fraudulent US tax return to the IRS for the year 2011, knowing that it was wrong.
The US District Attorney's Office of New Jersey declined to comment on the release of Sorrentino.
Sorrentino's brother, Marc, 40, was sentenced to two years in prison in 2018 for aiding in the preparation of a false and fraudulent tax return, the statement said. He is expected to be released on September 28, 2020.
CNN contacted the Sorrentino representatives.
CNN's Rob Frehse contributed to this report.
