Mike Trout of Angels prefers not to negotiate new contract during spring training or regular season

After Bryce Harper megadeal with Mike Trout, superstar of the Phillies Angels, was questioned on Friday about his own contractual situation. At 27, he still has two years left before entering the free market, but speculation about the possibility of Angels pursue another extension is quickly gaining speed.

Trout told reporters that he did not want to negotiate a new contract during spring training or the regular season. Here's what he said, according to Maria Torres from MLB.com and Fabian Ardaya of the athlete:

Mike Trout asked if he wanted to discuss a possible extension of contract with #Anges Before the season in an ideal world, he said: "With the spring training, you want to prepare for the season. You do not want to worry about anything else.

Mike Trout stated that he did not want to negotiate an extension during spring training or the regular season over the next two seasons before the expiry of his contract. This means that if the angels extended it before it became independent, it would happen next.

Ardaya later stated that Trout preferred not to bargain during spring or regular season training, although that does not mean that an agreement can not be reached. He would prefer to focus on baseball.

To clarify this: Ideally, Trout does not want to focus on a contract extension while playing. That does not mean it will not happen, but it's not his preference. His pre-arbitration extension in 2014 had been signed during the spring training (28/03/14).

Trout's comments do not necessarily mean a big change in his situation, but it should be noted that Trout has been extremely silent and uncommitted about his future with the Angels. This is not a secret, he is a long time fan of Philly Sports. Harper and Manny Machado have both signed with new teams, all eyes are now turned to Trout and what he will do when his contract expires. The stakes are high and the next season seems to indicate that it will be the best time for the Angels to win the best player in the franchise.
