Mike Tyson faces a new opponent, and that seems to be Hollywood as a whole.
The legendary heavyweight fighter on Thursday blasted Disney’s Hulu streaming service for giving the green light to the eight-episode biopic series “Iron Mike” without his involvement or permission.
“Hulu’s announcement to make an unauthorized miniseries of Tyson’s story without compensation, while unfortunate, is not surprising,” Tyson said in a statement posted on Instagram.
“This announcement following social disparities in our country is a prime example of how Hulu corporate greed has led to this muted cultural diversion of the tone of Tyson’s life story. Making this announcement during Black History Month only confirms Hulu’s concern for the black story rights dollars. Hollywood needs to be more responsive to the experiences of black people, especially after everything that happened in 2020. The real story authorized by Mike Tyson is in development and will be announced in the coming days. Hulu declined to comment on Tyson’s statement via The Hollywood Reporter, which reported that Hulu executives informed Tyson and his team about the series a few months ago.
