Miley Cyrus shared a song called “Mary Jane 5EVR” on her Instagram page. The track, which leaked a few weeks ago in unfinished form, was written a few years ago in Malibu at his house which was destroyed by a Woolsey wildfire. (Cyrus recently said that she ditched a planned EP trilogy after the computers they were on were lost in the fire.) It is a tribute to his dog Mary Jane and was produced by Mike Will Made- It, Andrew Wyatt and Emile Haynie. Here’s what Cyrus said about the song on Instagram:

I wrote this song in Malibu years ago on a piano in a house that no longer exists. About my dog Mary Jane who is also gone now.

Much has changed over time. Especially me.

Music is my medicine. This song revolves around loss and grief. What I am experiencing now after the death of Mary Jane.

MJ was a real queen. She wore her grace, her dignity and her kindness like a crown. She will never be forgotten and will be missed forever. To know her is to love her. It was my honor to be her mother and her best friend.

This is not the first song Cyrus wrote about a dead animal. His 2015 album with Flaming Lips, Miley Cyrus and her dead Petz, includes a song called “Pablow The Blowfish” about his pet fish.

Cyrus released a new album, Plastic hearts, Last year.
