The Milwaukee Brewers took another player from Canada on Day 2 of the 2021 MLB Draft, this one coming in the seventh round. The selection is outfielder Tristan Peters of Winkler, Canada, who played for Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
Peters, a 21-year-old junior, played at Chandler-Gilbert Community College in Arizona before playing for the Salukis in 2021. In his only season at SIU, Peters hit .355 / .463 / .548 with six home runs. and 14 stolen goals. over 268 plaque appearances. The left-handed clean-up batter for the Salukis is short for the ball at home with good balance, good bat speed and extension. This combination of abilities led him to a batting average of 0.423 with nine doubles and two homers to start the 2021 season. With good discipline at home and the ability to extend a strike at batting, Peters walked (20) nearly twice as many times as he has been struck on strikes (11) in 119 home plate appearances. With more speed, he slid 10 of 11 bases. Although he showed below average arm strength, he appeared to be an above average defender in center field. Prior to SIU, Peters was an NJCAA Gold Glove winner at Chandler-Gilbert CC (Arizona) in 2019.
