Mindy Kaling gets apology from Stephen Colbert after he accidentally walks in while changing

Mindy Kaling received an apology from Stephen Colbert on The Late Show on Wednesday, after accidentally entering while changing clothes.

Colbert, 57, said: “Now I would also like to apologize for earlier,” to which the Cambridge, Massachusetts native, 42, replied: “I didn’t know you were going to talk about it and I felt bad to talk about it. ‘

Colbert replied, “I thought you were going to talk about it because it would make me feel bad.”

The actress / screenwriter, whose full name is Vera Mindy Chokalingam, explained in detail the course of events leading up to Colbert’s mea culpa.

“I was backstage, I was changing; I was like in pants and my bra, ”the Never Have I Ever star said.

Colbert said he broke the routine by chatting with the guest before the show, as he usually approached guests from backstage on stage.

“I don’t usually do that… but I thought I was just going to say ‘Hey, have a good show’ so I opened the door,” the CBS host said. “I hit, but I did that hit and that pop at the same time.”

The Mindy Project star said she was not upset by the accident, saying, “I just thought all the time like ‘I wish I had worn a sexier bra” as she wore an indescribable gray bra.

Colbert joked that it was “very considerate,” adding: “So few guests take my feelings into account when I meet them undressed.”

After Kaling said she should have locked the door, Colbert replied, “It was all my fault – I should have knocked and waited.”

Colbert noted that he “didn’t see a thing” when he barged in, thanking Kaling’s team for their quick response to his entry.

He joked, “They threw themselves in front of you like I was an assassin – I wouldn’t have seen anything if I wanted to.”

Kaling replied: “They did it – I felt like Meghan Markle – they were like, ‘You will not pass! As if you had bad intentions. Like, it’s still Stephen Colbert.
