Minnesota Vikings Dalvin Cook’s game time decision on Sunday vs Lions

Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer calls running back Dalvin Cook a game time decision for Sunday’s home game against the Detroit Lions due to an ankle injury, said a source to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

If Cook does play, he’s not sure he’ll get his usual workload, the source said, and it would turn into an active day for his replacement, Alexander Mattison.

Earlier this week, Cook vowed to continue playing despite the injury he sustained in week two. He did not participate in training on Wednesday and Thursday and was restricted on Friday.

“That’s the plan,” Cook said Wednesday. “I don’t feel like I’m getting worse. I don’t feel like I’m going in the wrong direction. I feel like I’m going in the right direction to get back to where I need to be. You have those days, but we just played a game. I’m just trying to get back to 100% so I can help us win games. ”

After missing the Vikings’ Week 3 victory over the Seattle Seahawks, Cook returned last week and ran nine carries for 34 yards in a 14-7 loss to Cleveland. He missed most of the second half before coming back for the penultimate set of the game.

Mattison, who reached career highs rushing and receiving against Seattle in the absence of Cook in Minnesota’s only win of the season, had 10 carries for 20 yards against Cleveland.
