STAMFORD, Connecticut – Bellator's return to Connecticut in October will feature back-to-back combat cards on one of the regular playgrounds in the promotion.

Bellator 231 will take place on Friday, October 25 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The next evening, the Bellator 232 explodes in the same place, told MMA Junkie a person aware of the consecutive events. The person requested anonymity because the promotion has not yet made official announcement. This announcement is expected on Saturday's Bellator 225 card at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Bellator 231 will be titled by a heavy duel pitting Las Vegas residents Frank Mir (18-13 MMA, 0-2 BMMA) and Roy Nelson (23-17 MMA, 1-3 BMMA). This event will have a main map broadcast on Paramount and broadcast on DAZN.

The main event of Bellator 232 is the welterweight grand prix final between champion Rory MacDonald (21-5-1 MMA, 3-1-1 BMMA) and former champion Douglas Lima (31- 7 MMA, 13-3 BMMA), reunited to a rematch with MacDonald's belt on the line. The main map of this event is broadcast on DAZN.

Bellator also participated in consecutive events at the Mohegan Sun Arena in February with Bellator 215 and Bellator 216.

Mir and Nelson fought for the first time in 2011 while they were in the UFC. Mir, a former UFC heavyweight champion, defeated Nelson with a unanimous decision at the co-main event of UFC 230 in Las Vegas. This victory is the second in a series of three bouts that have earned him the junior champion title Dos Santos, which he lost in the second round, TKO.

After a suspension of the anti-doping analysis conducted by the US anti-doping agency, Mir made his debut at Bellator in 2018 during the first round of the heavyweight tournament. Fedor Emelianenko knocked him out in 48 seconds. During his follow-up at Bellator 212 last December, he launched attacks against Javy Ayala after fracturing his jaw. Defeat was his fourth consecutive.

Nelson must also bounce back. After arriving at Bellator's UFC in 2017, he made his promotional debut with a unanimous decision against Javy Ayala. But at Bellator 194, he lost a majority decision at the expense of Matt Mitrione in the first round of the heavyweight tournament. After a fight with Mirko Cro Cop, he returned in October 2018, but was knocked out by Sergei Kharitonov with a second in the first round. Nelson eventually fought Cro Cop in February at Bellator 216, but lost a decision in Connecticut.

Bellator's initial plan was to have MacDonald and Lima meet in September, but MacDonald needed more time to recover from his victory over Neiman Gracie at the Bellator 222's main event in June.

MacDonald and Lima competed at the Bellator 192 in January 2018. MacDonald took the Brazilian's unanimous decision to win the welterweight title.

MacDonald played a draw with Jon Fitch in the first round of the tournament at Bellator 220 in April, but retained his title and qualified for the semi-finals. There, he beat Gracie with a five-round decision at Madison Square Garden.

Lima defeated former champion Andrey Koreshkov for the second time with a fifth-round bid in the first round of the tournament against Bellator 206. He then left his first loss against Michael Page, his first defeat at Bellator 221 in May to reach the final.
