Miranda Lambert revealed the inspiration behind her award-winning song Over You.

The song reached number one when released in 2012 and won the CMA Award and the ACM Song of the Year Award.

Now, in the latest episode of Essentials Radio on Apple Music, Miranda, 37, revealed that she wrote Over You with her ex-husband Blake Shelton, 44, in memory of her late brother.

Blake’s brother Richie tragically died in 1990 in a car crash when Blake was just 14 years old. He was 24 at the time.

Explaining the story behind Over You, Miranda said: ‘My ex-husband Blake had lost a brother and it’s one of those times when even though you’re married to someone you sometimes find something thing new about it.

“ Guys don’t open up about things, but he started telling me about experiencing it all. And I was like, “Have you ever written about this?”

The singer explained how Blake’s dad used to say, “you don’t get over it, you get used to it”.

She continued, “And I was like, ‘Well, could we write it down? Do you want to give it a try or is it overwhelming? “.”

Miranda went on to say that she told Blake, ‘I would never try to write your story because I haven’t experienced it, but maybe I could help because I’m an outside perspective. but I can feel your pain talking to me right now. ”

She added, “ It was truly a special time and I’m so happy that we shared this song and it helped her family heal, to have her together. ”

The song’s lyrics include: “But you’re gone / How dare you? / I will miss you / They say everything will be fine / But I’ll never get over it.”
