A moment of recklessness likely cost Brooks Koepka a cut in the final PGA Tour event of 2020.
Hovering near the cut line on Friday at the Mayakoba Classic, Koepka missed a 10-foot birdie on the par-5 fifth hole, her 14th of the day. That’s when he stepped up and, without taking much time, called off the 1½-foot comebacker, coming away with a bogey.
Even if he made the eighth hole, it probably won’t be enough for Koepka to make the cut. It stands at par-142, with the cut line projected at 1 below par. The second-round game was suspended on Friday due to the darkness, but with the top 65s and draws the line is unlikely to change.

And so will end an eventful 2020 for Koepka, who did not win a tournament and rose from first to twelfth place in the world rankings, with a few events to play this year.
Coy all season on the nature of his injuries, Koepka revealed this fall that he needs further treatment on his left knee and is also battling a slight tear in his left hip. After two months off, Koepka has been looking better lately, recording a tie for fifth place at the Houston Open before a T-7 at the Masters.
