JACKSONVILLE, Florida – A young man who had been reported missing was found dead Sunday after a motorcycle crash on the University of North Florida campus, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

Lt. Rich Buoye of the JSO’s Homicide Unit said police responded to a fatal motorcycle accident around noon on Sunday. Buoye said the runner, identified as a 19-year-old man, was reported missing by his mother on Saturday after she had not heard from him for around 4 p.m. Friday. Buoye said he was later found in the wooded area by friends and family ringing his cell phone.

“It’s a terrible tragedy,” Buoye said at a press conference on Sunday afternoon. “A 19-year-old does not come home and his mother and family are devastated. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
