Pennsylvania police on Sunday found a body matching the description of a woman who went missing last month.
Cassandra “Casey” Johnston, 26, of Bucks County went missing on July 10 after visiting Philadelphia with a group of friends. His disappearance puzzled police for weeks, but the discovery of human remains believed to belong to Johnston prompted police to speculate that an accident could have caused his death.
She was last seen driving away from Philadelphia, heading toward I-95 around 5:30 a.m. that morning.
Police discovered a silver 2016 Ford Focus in northeast Philadelphia on Saturday that officers said belonged to Johnston, Law & Crime reported. A private investigator hired by Johnston’s family was on a plane when he spotted the vehicle.

The human remains were about half a mile from the car. Police believe Johnston crashed his car, then was thrown through the vehicle’s sunroof.
“It appears she did not negotiate the curve properly,” Lower Southampton Township Police Chief Ted Krimmel reportedly said. “It came down to the culvert and went up into the air and over the railing and it crashed into a tree about 30 feet in the air.”

He further speculated that heavy rain caused flooding, which would have helped move Johnston’s body away from the vehicle.
Police found the body in Byberry Creek, Philadelphia 10 News reported.

The body has not yet been identified, but police have notified Johnston’s family.
The Philadelphia medical examiner’s office will perform an autopsy.
