Tulsa coach Greg Montgomery said second-year security Kendarin Ray was being treated for “some sort of concussion” after being at the bottom of a pile during the scrum.

“The only thing I’ll say is our schedule, our guys, we’re a team that’s going to defend and we’re going to fight,” Montgomery said. We are talking about faith, family, football, and the family will take care of the family. We are a team that has fought all year. We fought again today. From this point of view, our guys will continue to protect themselves and go from there “

Mississippi State coach Mike Leach said he was not sure what sparked the fray.

Tulsa was trying a late kick to come back. But the team was flagged for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, which may have fueled anger.

Mississippi state freshman Will Rogers threw a touchdown pass and rushed for one more in the win. Bulldogs defensive back Emmanuel Forbes returned a 90-yard touchdown.
