The owner of a Missouri taxi company said his transportation service would not pick up passengers wearing masks or who have received the COVID-19 vaccine, despite a wave of new cases in the state.
“We do not allow any type of mask in our vehicles. The second, we’re very against the vaccines, and we don’t want to have people in our vehicle doing the vaccines, ”owner Charlie Bullington told KMOV in an interview released Thursday.
According to the taxi service’s website, Yo Transportation operates in Franklin, Jefferson, Lincoln, Montgomery, St. Charles, St. Louis, and Warren counties. KMOV said the company has been operating for 16 years.
During the interview, Bullington also said, “I understand that Missouri is one of the top three states with the lowest vaccination rate, so I’m proud of everyone in Missouri for standing up against it. to that.”
Missouri actually ranked 39th among states based on the percentage of the population fully vaccinated, according to Becker’s Hospital Review on Friday. According to data from Johns Hopkins University, about 42% of the state’s population is fully vaccinated.
Customers at Yelp and Google have complained about the anti-masking messages they received from the company, the Riverfront Times reported.
A reviewer who said he was denied a ride said the driver texted them several times afterwards.
“This man spent 2 hours texting me about his anti-mask nonsense. I had to ask him three times to leave me alone,” the reviewer said, reported The Riverfront Times.
Despite Bullington’s controversial policies, Missouri is battling a wave of new COVID-19 cases. The state saw 3,257 new cases on Thursday, up from hundreds in late May and June.
