Mitch McConnell speaks out against Marjorie Taylor Greene with removal efforts underway

Senate Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has criticized Georgia’s Republican House Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene for her belief in extremist conspiracy theories.

He is one of the few Republicans to speak openly against the new MP, even as Democrats attempt to get Greene removed from his recent assignments on the House Education and Labor Committee and the House Budget Committee. the House, while preventing it from being placed on any other influential congressional committees in the future.

“Someone who suggested that no planes crashed into the Pentagon on September 11, that horrific school shootings were pre-arranged, and that the Clintons crashed JFK Jr.’s plane does not live in reality, “said McConnell, according to The hill. “It has nothing to do with the challenges facing American families or the intense substantive debates that can make our party stronger.”

Among the theories she supported or disseminated, Greene believes that a plane never struck the Pentagon during the terrorist attacks of September 11; that former President Barack Obama was secretly Muslim; that Black Lives Matters is a “domestic terrorist” organization; that the election was stolen from former President Donald Trump; that all of the school shootings were demonstrations aimed at increasing the regulation of firearms; that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton once cut off a child’s face and carried it; and that wealthy Jews used a space laser to start wildfires and others.

As a growing number of Democrats called on Republican Minority House Leader Kevin McCarthy to remove the freshman MP from her committee appointments, on Monday, the House Rules Committee said it would present a resolution on Tuesday. .

The resolution alleges that Green violated Article 1 of House Rule 23 which states: “A member, delegate, resident commissioner, officer or employee of the House shall at all times behave in a manner which must credibly reflect the Chamber ”.

In a statement sent to Newsweek on MondaYes, Greene said Democrats and the “bogus news media” “were chasing her” because she was “a threat to their socialist objective” and represented “the people, not the politicians.” She has never publicly disowned any of her previously stated beliefs in the aforementioned conspiracy theories.

GOP House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said he plans to meet with Greene to discuss his extremist beliefs.

“These comments are deeply disturbing and Leader McCarthy plans to have a conversation with the MP about them,” Mark Bednar, a spokesperson for McCarthy, told Axios last week.
