The co-hosts were discussing Republican opposition to Trump on tariffs, a position they suggested was long overdue given his other acts as president.

"Is not it interesting that this is the thing that made them crazy?" co-host Whoopi Goldberg asked. "Do not [Sen.]Ted Cruz's, [R-Texas], Woman being [talked about]. "

She added that Cruz was not sorry that Trump insulted his wife or suggested that his father was involved in the assassination of former President John F. Kennedy. "But the tariffs got rid of their spirit," she said.

McConnell reportedly said Tuesday that Trump's rates did not have much support from his party. "We hope that rates will be avoided and we will not have to respond to assumptions such as those you suggest," he said, according to CNBC.

Trump used tariffs to punish Mexico for its inaction on the border crisis in the south. Earlier Wednesday, Trump thanked the minority leader in the House, Kevin McCarthy, D-Calif., For his support of the rates.

"Thank you @GOPLeader, "he said, using McCarthy's Twitter account, Trump had earlier described Mexico as a US abuser and called on the nation to stop drug and human trafficking.
