Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has said he will “absolutely” support former President Donald Trump if he wins the GOP party nomination in 2024.

McConnell went on Fox News’ “Special Report with Bret Baier” Thursday night and hinted that some Republicans are already considering running for commander-in-chief.

“I have at least four members who I think are planning to run for president, as well as governors and others. There is no holder. Should be a widely open race, ”McConnell Told host Bret Baier.

Baier then asked McConnell if he would back Trump if he won the party’s nomination for the next presidential election.

“The party candidate? Absolutely, ”replied the Kentucky Republican.

After stepping down, Trump was impeached a second time after House Democrats accused him of instigating the Jan.6 insurgency, but the Senate failed to condemn him.

Since then, the former president has said he plans to remain active in the GOP, including the 2022 midterm elections.

Utah Senator Mitt Romney – who has been a staunch critic of Trump – recently told the New York Times that if Trump is planning to run in 2024, he believes he will be the party’s candidate.
