BOSTON – The Red Sox have won a home series for the first time in 2019.
Mookie Betts and Mitch Moreland were both welcomed. Starting pitcher Rick Porcello launched 8 scoreless innings. Boston won 5-1 against Oakland Athletics on Tuesday at Fenway Park.
Boston came back from a 4-0 deficit to win the A 9-4 win on Monday. The final of this three-game series is Wednesday at 1:05 pm
The Red Sox had previously split the series at home against the Blue Jays, Orioles and Tigers. The Red Sox also lost a series against the Rays at Fenway Park this weekend.
Betts ran his sixth home goal, a 396-foot blast in the middle of the field to give Boston 1-0 in the first run. He left his time with an outing speed of 104.0 mph, by Baseball Savant.
Sandy Leon's single single in second place scored Michael Chavis, giving Boston a 2-0 lead.
Mitch Moreland then hit his eighth circuit, one without doubting 109.5 mph, 423 feet in the middle of the field. Both home runs gave the advantage to Boston 4-0.
Boston added an undeserved run to fifth.
Porcello, coming in with a 7.43 ERA in five starts, launched brilliantly. He allowed only two hits and two walks while eliminating eight goals in eight scoreless innings.
The right-hander was relying heavily on his cursor. He launched 41 sliders, 39 two seamstresses, 23 four seamstresses, six changes and five curved balls. He recorded five swings and misses with the slider.
Tyler Thornburg allowed a home run in the ninth to end the shutout.
