Sadly, the season started on a low note with one of the evening’s demo games postponed due to COVID-19.
In addition, the rain plays spoiler in Beantown.
However, there are still 13 games to go throughout the day.

Snow joke
Come for the circuit, stay for the slide.
Miguel Cabrera gave us the first circuit of the season, but apparently he didn’t think he had it all figured out. The 19-year-old MLB vet played it safe and slipped into second as his long shot got lost in the snow.
Wait, snow?
That’s right, no need to adjust your image!
The summer heat waves are still far away, as the snowy weather in Detroit reminded us.
But this surreal scene demands another look.
What just happened?
The Los Angeles Dodgers started their World Series defense with some madness, thanks to Cody Bellinger and Justin Turner.
So the ball went over the wall with a man at the base, but Bellinger is ruled out as he passed the baserunner in front of him and Bellinger is credited with an RBI single. Does that make sense?
Baseball is back!
Too smooth
The Colorado Rockies make it seem too easy against the defending champions in their opener, as evidenced by this effortless double play.
Opening day
It might only be opening day, but there was a lot of drama in Philadelphia.
After thwarting Ronald Acuña Jr.’s attempt on the Atlanta Braves’ left field to win a game early in the 10th inning, the Philadelphia Phillies won the game on a Jean Segura RBI single late in the 10th two outings.
Byron says “goodbye”
Talk about one without a doubt. Byron Buxton feasted on this pitch for a two-point home run that traveled 456 feet.
Pop panda
Pablo Sandoval took the hand in a pinch, literally, for the Atlanta Braves, hitting a two-run tying shot against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Rookie of the year?
Pittsburgh Pirates fans know Ke’Bryan Hayes well, but the rookie presented himself to the rest of the league with a home run in his first at-bat of the season against the Chicago Cubs.
Hayes appeared in 17 games for the Buccos last season, but he is eligible for any rookie honor that could come his way. According to FOX Bet, he’s the favorite to win the NL Rookie of the Year award at +425 (a $ 10 bet would net $ 42.50, plus your initial $ 10).
If he continues to drop the ball in the seats, those odds will change for sure.
Another competitor
Not to be outdone by Hayes, St. Louis Cardinals rookie Dylan Carlson met one against the Cincinnati Reds.
MLB fans on FOX voted in the offseason and chose Carlson to win the NL Rookie of the Year award. Not a bad start for their choice!
Arrangement
Luis Urias made a first impression with his new team, the Milwaukee Brewers, diving to his right to steal a hit in the first at bat of the season for the Minnesota Twins.

Just for the adrenaline
Bryce Harper made a fashion statement with his pre-game cleats for the Philadelphia Phillies vs Atlanta Braves game.
Surely, a few mascot in The City of Brotherly Love is a big phan of these duds.
Gary goes to the yard
The New York Yankees erased an early 1-0 deficit to the Blue Jays with a two-point shot from Gary Sanchez.
With 115 home runs in 421 games coming this season, power has never been an issue for the Yankees wide receiver.
However, he is hoping he can avoid a season like the 2020s, where he only hit 0.147 in 156 bats.

Madison Bumgarner is perfect proof for fans who despise the designated hitter rule.
He didn’t get him over the wall, but the Arizona Diamondbacks ace showed some power on the warning track.
Back to back
It wasn’t all good for Mad Bum on opening day.
As good as his power on the warning track is, the San Diego Padres have shown bleacher power on back-to-back home runs for Eric Hosmer and Wil Myers.

Looks like the Philadelphia Phillies and their blue color scheme have some competition for the “sickest jersey of the game.”
