Major League Baseball’s 2021 regular season wraps up Sunday, and baseball’s playoff photo takes final shape in early October. We officially have eight of our 10 playoff teams, as the White Sox, Giants, Dodgers, Brewers, Rays The Cardinals, the Astros and the Braves got places. The only things to settle are whether the Giants or the Dodgers win the NL West (San Francisco enters Saturday with a magic number of one) and who will play in the AL Wild Card Game.
The Red Sox currently hold a one-game lead over the Blue Jays and Mariners for second-place wild card, with the Yankees one game ahead of Boston. The possibility of a massive four- or three-way tie still exists.
So how is all of this going to play out? We’ll find out the answers before the playoffs start on Tuesday. But it’s also worth asking, what would the MLB playoff picture look like if the season ended today? We’ve got the answer to that question, along with up-to-date standings and playoff odds, below.
