Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias was put on administrative leave by Major League Baseball after his arrest on Monday night on suspicion of local battery charges.
The Los Angeles Police Department said the arrest was the result of an incident between Urias, 22, and a woman on the parking lot of the Beverly Center, a shopping area, at 7:30 pm. PT.
Urias spent the night in jail and was released at 1:30 pm Tuesday after filing a $ 20,000 bail.
The MLB stated that she was conducting an investigation into the case and was "gathering facts" while Urias was on administrative leave, which can be extended several times beyond the limit of seven days.
"We learned the alleged incident this morning and are gathering information," said the Dodgers in a statement released Tuesday. "As a result, we are not commenting on the incident at this time, however, every allegation of domestic violence must be taken seriously and dealt with promptly, and we will cooperate fully with the authorities and Major League Baseball to ensure what that is happening. Urias is one of the best young pitchers of the Dodgers organization. The southpaw has been used as a starter and reliever this season, recording a 2-2 record with a 3.18 ERA and two saves in nine games, including four starts.
A native of Mexico, Urias played only eight games in 2017 and 2018 due to an injury to the shoulder that required surgery.
