MLB Rumors: Live Trade Deadline Updates With Kris Bryant, Trevor Story, Others Potentially On The Move

[ad_1]

The 2021 MLB trade deadline has arrived. We’ve already seen several notable trades this week, including the Dodgers landing Max Scherzer and Trea Turner, and the Yankees getting Joey Gallo and Anthony Rizzo in separate deals. Friday promises to bring several other big trades. Here are the deadline details you need to know:

  • The deadline for transactions is 4 p.m. ET. MLB brought it forward by a day as July 31 is a Saturday with multiple game days, making logistics difficult (trade candidates should be kept out of the roster etc).
  • Players on the non-40 player roster can still be traded after July 30. MLB eliminated the August and September waiver trades two years ago, so players on the 40-player roster are banned after the deadline.
  • Players must be in the organization by 11:59 p.m. ET on August 31 to be eligible for the playoff roster.
  • Rockies’ Trevor Story and the Cubs duo of Kris Bryant and Craig Kimbrel could be the biggest names moved on Friday.
  • You can follow all the major offers on our trade tracker.

There is no escape around the August 31 playoff eligibility deadline. The player doesn’t have to be on the MLB roster that day, but they have to be in the organization. Any player acquired after the trade deadline (via waivers or free agency) must be in the organization by August 31 to be eligible for the playoffs. No exceptions.
