Jon Heyman of the MLB Network reported Wednesday that “the Yankees investigated Scherzer but were told they were not on his list.” Of course, that was before the Yankees made a deal to trade for Texas Rangers outfielder Joey Gallo.

Newsday’s Tim Healey reported on Tuesday that according to people familiar with the situation, a Mets-Nationals Scherzer trade “is not taking place.”
SNY’s Andy Martino reported Tuesday “There is no way Washington will trade Scherzer for the Mets,” according to an “industry source with direct knowledge of the situation.”
Monday, Jesse Dougherty of the Washington Post reported “Scherzer does not intend to use his 10-5 rights to veto a deal to stay in Washington. It is open to moving. That said, he could use them to influence his destination if WSH has multiple offers on the table. “
On Sunday, Martino reported that according to league sources, the Mets will “find out” about Scherzer, who is 7-4 with a 2.83 ERA in 18 starts this season.
At 46-54, the Nationals sit fourth in the National League East, eight games behind the first-place Mets. Washington has 11 return games in the National League wildcard race. So it makes sense that the Nationals are trying to move the 37-year-old Scherzer before Friday’s trade deadline, as the three-time Cy Young Award winner will be a free agent after the season.
