Pujols ranks third in the list of points produced
The future Hall of Fame member, Albert Pujols, is getting closer and closer to joining the extremely exclusive RBI 2,000 club. Sunday afternoon, Pujols led in career races 1 996 and 1 997 with a double in the first heat. With that one shot, he overtook Barry Bonds (1,996 RBIs) and became the sole owner of third place on the all-time scoring list.
Here is the video:
Only Hank Aaron (2,297 RBI) and Alex Rodriguez (2,086 RBI) scored more points than Pujols. It should be noted, however, that the MLB does not count the RBI until 1920 because it was not yet an official statistic. Babe Ruth (2,214 RBI) and Cap Anson (2,077 RBI) are part of the 2,000 RBI club before 1920.
Whatever it is, Pujols is on the very short list of the best managed producers in the history of baseball. He will soon become the third official member (and the fifth unofficial member) of the 2,000 RBI club.
Bellinger leads the Dodgers to victory
Make that four consecutive wins for the Dodgers and eight consecutive defeats for the Pirates. Cody Bellinger, the BN's favorite MVP, led the way as Los Angeles eliminated an early 5-1 deficit on Sunday afternoon. Bellinger scored his 14th round and was also selected in an insurance race at the last rounds.
This is Bellinger's latest novel. A year ago, he absolutely could not get this land:
Bellinger went 2 for 3 with the home run and 3 RBIs on Sunday. There are currently 188 players with enough appearances on the plate to qualify for the batting title. Here are the ranks of Bellinger:
- Batting average: 427 (1st by 42 points on Tim Anderson)
- Percentage based on: .500 (1 of 4 on Mike Trout)
- Percentage of slugging: .913 (1st by 109 points more than Christian Yelich)
- PAHO: 1,413 (1st out of 149 points above Yelich)
Bellinger also has more walks (17) than takes (14). Last season, he eliminated 23.9% of his matches. That number dropped to 11.3% this year. No, Bellinger is not a true .427 / .500 / .913 talent (no one is), but there are enough underlining indicators to make him a better batter, and he was good enough to start.
The Blue Jays knock out A, remain undefeated at the time of Vlad Jr.
Since the team should not be competing in 2019, this could have been the best weekend of the season for the Blue Jays. Wunderkind Vladimir Guerrero Jr. made his league debut on Friday nightand Sunday, Toronto stunned the athletes with a four-point winning trade in the 11th inning to complete the sweep.
The A scored three points in the top of the 11th to take what appeared to be a comfortable lead, but in the last half, Brandon Drury tied with a three-run homer against Blake Treinen. Drury, who lost his job in the third goal to Vlad Jr., scored Sunday a walk-in match and the draw drew on Sunday:
A few batters later, Justin Smoak threw a single in the left foot to win the match. Treinen was charged with four points in 1 2/3 inning. It's the first time that he's charged four points since a five-point pass in August 2016, while he was still with the Nationals. Heck, Treinen allowed three points total in 32 1/3 in the second half of last season. Gosh.
Sunday's win saw the Blue Jays return to 14-14 in the season. It was also the first major league win for Elvis Luciano, a 19-year-old under Rule 5. Luciano is the first MLB player born in the 2000s and now he is the first player born in the 2000s to record a victory. Pretty cool. Oh, and the Blue Jays are undefeated at the time of Vlad Jr .. Not too bad.
The Yankees win again but lose two more goals due to injury
No team has been more affected by injuries than the Yankees this season, yet no team in the big leagues can be hotter right now. The Yankees clubbed the Giants on Sunday to complete a three-game playoff sweep. The Bronx's improvised bombers have won 11 of their last 13 games and are now just one and a half game behind the Rays in east-end Alberta.
And yet, as they are the 2019 Yankees, two players left Sunday's game with injuries. They seem cursed. DJ LeMahieu came out with a tight knee – that goes back to Friday night, when he committed a foul in the knee – and third-baseman Gio Urshela came out after playing a ball in the hand. It does not look good (or sound):
Fortunately for the Yankees, X-rays came back negative on LeMahieu's knee and Urshela's hand. They are not out of the wood yet. Urshela is day-to-day and LeMahieu will go on an MRI on Monday to make sure that he does not treat anything other than a deep bruise:
The Yankees currently have 13 players on the wounded list, including three new players (Miguel Andujar, Didi Gregorius, Troy Tulowitzki), four junior players (Clint Frazier, Aaron Hicks, Judge Aaron, Giancarlo Stanton), their best editor (Dellin Betances). It is remarkable that they do not just keep their heads out of the water, but thrive.
The trio of Nats goes on history
After a series of trend collapses over the past few days, the Nationals have returned to Sunday's winning streak, and they can thank Matt Adams for returning home. Adams stopped the bleeding and improved Washington to 12-14 on the year.
Earlier in the game, a trio of awesome national kids combined to make the home run story. Juan Soto (20, 185 days), Victor Robles (21, 344) and Carter Kieboom (recently named) (21, 237) all had a difficult day on Sunday. According to the nationals, they are the first trio of teammates under 22 to play the same game.
The Nationals are the only baseball team to have won home races for several young people under 22 this season, even though it's only three in a game. Soto, Robles, Kieboom and Trea Turner, currently injured, form an extremely bright core of players in position in Washington.
