Mets seemingly running out of time to extend their valuable off-season acquisition, shortstop Francisco lindor. The 27-year-old, who won four All-Star nods with the Indians before joining the Mets in a successful winter trade, has made it clear he will not be negotiating a new contract when the regular season kicks off Thursday. This means he could become the main free agent on the board in the next offseason.
Although the Mets and Lindor are getting closer to their self-imposed deadline, they are not yet heading towards a deal, according to Andy Martino of SNY.tv. However, the Mets made Lindor a record franchise offer worth around $ 325 million over 10 years, writes Martino. Jon Heyman of the MLB Network confirms this, but he tweets that he “believes” the Mets will not make another offer to Lindor before his deadline. Still, the whole industry expects both sides to strike a deal, according to Martino.
