Mmhmm, the app that makes your video presentations more fun, has arrived on Mac

Mmhmm, the video presentation app that infuses video calls with Weekend Update-style graphics, is coming out of beta for its debut on the Mac. The app offers free and premium levels and exclusive functionality for buyers of new Apple computers with M1.

Mmhmm’s basic assumption is that if we’re going to be spending the majority of our time communicating through video calls, they should at least be more engaging and expressive, rather than just shared desktops and green screen backgrounds. .

Mmhmm tries to fill this gap by giving users the ability to overlay a resizable version of themselves on photos, videos and slides and share a live feed of it all in video calls. The app acts like the controls for the backgrounds and effects you use or the presentation you give regardless of which video chat platform you are using. You can also collaborate on presentations using the Co-Pilot feature, creating presentations with a friend, or transferring commands while you talk. However, the application is not only commercial; there are fun effects like Jedi hologram filters and Big Hand mode to spice up non-professional calls as well.

Big Hand Mode is new as of the beta release of the app – and is exclusive to newer computers with Apple because it relies on the chip’s machine learning capabilities – but it seems like a way effective in facilitating non-verbal communication in group calls. Rather than looking for the button to wake you up, Big Hand mode overlays a colorful hand on top of yours, so you can lift your thumb, toss a peace sign, or point in a visible fashion, even in a small box of video call.

Big Hand mode allows for easier non-verbal communication.

Mmhmm divides its functionality into two levels: Premium, which offers customizable backgrounds and fun tools like laser pointers and filters, and Basic, which is the basic functionality of presenting, recording and collaboration on presentations.

Anyone who downloads Mmhmm will be able to use “Premium Tools” for a seven-day free trial, after which they will only be able to use premium features for one hour per day. For unlimited access, Mmhmm offers subscriptions for $ 9.99 per month or $ 99 per year. Additionally, there are a few other ways to use premium tools for longer. If you were in the beta, you will get a 3 month thank you bonus from developer All Turtles. Students and educators can also benefit from a free bonus year if they confirm their status by sending an email to “[email protected]” from their school email.

Mmhmm is now available on its site, for Macs running Big Sur, Catalina or Mojave. A Mac App Store version is planned and a beta version of Windows is also in the works.
