A 35-year-old mother from North Carolina was charged with attempted first degree murder of her granddaughter.

Police in Asheville North Carolina received a 911 call Thursday saying

Krista Noelle Madden and her baby

Shaylie had been kidnapped. The call was not sent by Madden, police announced at a press conference Friday.

The authorities were able to locate Madden's cell phone in Henderson County and police were sent to the area where his phone had been found. They also received a call stating that an abandoned car had been found on an "isolated private drive" near Madden's phone.

Upon arriving at the scene, the police found Madden, who would have escaped an abduction. The abandoned car was identified as his.

Police dogs have found no trace of anyone in the area, with the exception of Madden, Henderson police said at the press conference.

On Thursday, police received another call shortly before 8 pm, from a family in the area who said they had found a baby who appeared to have been thrown into a ravine.

The 911 call was released by police on Friday. The woman on call appeared panicked after informing the baby's police.

The baby was found after a woman went to check her mailbox. She thought she heard a baby crying and called her husband, Scott, for help.

"[The husband] arrives at the scene, goes down a ravine to find the child alone with a car seat, "said Henderson County Sheriff Lowell Griffin.

In an interview with "Good Morning America," Scott Fowler said that if the baby was found elsewhere in the rural area, it may not have been found.

Shaylie, who was admitted to a local hospital, would be in good shape, according to Griffin.

Police now say that there is no indication that an abduction has taken place, although it is possible that the 911 caller originally had really believed that Madden and Shaylie had been abducted.

The police placed Madden in custody Thursday night and handed him a warrant for arrest.

Madden, held on bail of $ 750,000, is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
