According to the authorities, a mother in Georgia simulated the illness of her 5-year-old son to collect disability checks.

Teresa Lynne Roth, 34, forced her son to take 28 unnecessary drugs and undergo unnecessary medical treatment for nearly two years, according to investigators.

His son, who was taking many medications, was wheelchair bound and had a feeding tube while his parents were making checks for people with disabilities on his behalf.

"It's upset, you know, that's not normal," said Lieutenant Scott Ware of Hall County Sheriff's Office in Boston.

According to Boston 25, the case began in 2016 when the boy was taken to an Atlanta hospital and was treated for several diseases – which investigators now say that they were completely invented. Once the health workers began to be wary of the mother, they alerted the Department of Family and Child Services (DFCS), which removed the child from his home in October 2018.

Roth, arrested on Thursday, was charged with cruelty to first degree children.
