After eight years and eight seasons, “Mom” is coming to an end.
The popular and long-running series premiered on CBS in September 2013 and will air its final episode on May 6. The end of the critically acclaimed show comes just a season after the departure of star Anna Faris, who left the show to pursue other opportunities.
The show followed Faris, who played Christy Plunkett, a recovering single mother and alcoholic who decides to start her life over in Napa, California. By attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings with the mother and her recovering partner, Bonnie (played by Allison Janney), the mother-daughter attempts to rekindle their relationship and take back their lives.
The show received praise from fans and critics for its ability to cut through humor and topics such as alcoholism, drug addiction, homelessness, relapse, gambling addiction, teenage pregnancy, death and more.

Ahead of the series finale, Janney wrote a lengthy Instagram tribute, thanking her castmates and fans for her time on the series, noting that it was “one of the great honors of my life.”
“Being a part of MOM for the past 8 years … showing the laughter, love and hope that can accompany recovery has been one of the great honors of my life,” she wrote before thanking a list of crew members and colleagues. castmates, including Faris.
“Our whole team, your laughter, your love and your dedication to this show made it a pleasure to come to work,” she continued. “And last but not least of all of our amazing fans !!! Thank you for all of your support over the years.”
Show creators Chuck Lorre and Gemma Baker, alongside executive producer Nick Bakay, also released a statement on the show’s conclusion, referring to the opportunity to work on “Mom” as a “big honor.” .

“Whether it’s the emotional reactions of the audience live at the Stage 20 recording night, or the discussions in the White House regarding the opioid crisis, or the personal stories we continue to receive on social media, we are so proud to know that mom has had an impact on so many lives. We are eternally grateful to our brilliant actors and guest stars, our wonderful writers and our amazing team for taking this journey with us. “

In a recent appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” Janney, 61, spoke about Faris’ absence and noted that it was “very strange” without her.
