Actress Mimi Kennedy – who plays Marjorie on the hit show Mom – shared an online petition started by fans asking for the CBS sitcom to be saved after its cancellation.

Yesterday, it was announced that Mom would end later this year after eight seasons, following the dramatic departure of lead star Anna Faris, who left days before production started last September.

However, Allison Janney told Ellen DeGeneres earlier this week that she hopes the cast of the set will continue to “ keep telling their story ” about the characters who deal with the important topic of addiction and recovery.

Mimi Kennedy, 72, posted on her Instagram on Thursday: “ The public has a voice and should not be ignored, ” vowing to share the Change.org petition.

Meanwhile, Kristen Johnston, 53, who plays recovering drug addict Tammy Diffendor on the show, also shared her disappointment with the cancellation on Wednesday.

“ Such a disappointment, ” Kristen tweeted. “This show was such a joy and an honor to be a part. It was life changing for me to be on a show dedicated to recovery and women supporting each other. Plus, mom has the BEST fans ever.

It is not uncommon for TV shows to be recorded by streaming services which could potentially be a savior for mom.

Hulu and Netflix have already revived companies such as Arrested Development, The Killing, Full House and The Mindy Project, after the networks deserted them.

Executive Producers Chuck Lorre, Gemma Baker and Nick Bakay said in a statement yesterday: “ Over the past eight years we have had the great honor of bringing these wonderful characters to life, sharing their struggles and triumphs with millions of viewers every week. “.

“ We are eternally grateful to our brilliant actors and guest stars, our wonderful writers and our amazing team for taking this journey with us, ” the statement concluded.

It comes after Janney, 61, opened up about Faris, 44, and her outing on The Ellen DeGeneres, saying, “ Yeah, that was very strange and she missed a lot. Anna is missing and her character on the show is missed.

Janney then expressed her wish for the series to continue, although Faris was marketed as the show’s star and main character when it first premiered in 2013.

“ We’re just happy that she’s doing what she wants to do now, and we’re even happier that we can continue to tell these stories about these great women in recovery, ” she said, referring to the makes the series take place in a group of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Janney continued, “ And I think there are some really wonderful characters that have been established. And people love the show, so we’re going to keep telling the stories for as long as possible.

However, now is the end of the road for the series, despite the great job done by the entire cast.

The creators’ statement added, “From the start we set out to tell stories about recovery from alcohol and drug addiction that are rarely featured in a network comedy series.”

“Whether it’s the emotional reactions of the audience live at the Stage 20 recording night, or the discussions in the White House regarding the opioid crisis, or the personal stories we continue to receive on social networks, we are very proud to know that mom has positively impacted so many lives. ”

Created by Chuck Lorre, Eddie Gorodetsky and Gemma Baker, Mom was initially conceived as a vehicle for Faris, following her string of successful comedic roles in films including The House Bunny and Smiley Face.

However, the show – which deals with the theme of recovery from drug and alcohol addiction – has seen its fair share of changes over the seasons.

By season three, it was less about the character of Faris, Christy and her children, and more of an ensemble comedy – supporting actors Jaime Pressley, Mimi Kennedy and Beth Hall having more screen time. .

In 2018, Kristen Johnston made a big impact playing Tammy Diffendorf, the adopted sister of Bonnie (Janney) who ended up in jail after trying to rob an Outback Steakhouse.

It wasn’t long before Johnston was invited to be a regular on the show, and the show is now seen as an ensemble piece between the five actors – arguably with Janney in the lead.

Meanwhile, Faris released a statement upon her shock release, saying, “ The past seven years on Mom have been some of the most rewarding and rewarding of my career. ”

She added: ‘I’m so grateful to Chuck [Lorre], the writers and my amazing castmates for creating a truly wonderful work experience.
