Who knows better what makes a good Mother's Day than mothers who are on the front lines of local businesses that offer the kind of gifts their sons and husbands are looking for? Here, local moms who manage, own or run their own businesses share the seasonal patterns observed around Mother's Day – as well as an overview of what makes this special day so special for them.

At Jerry's Floral Shop & Greenhouses, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day mark the busiest seasons of the Uzbek family. Between the hanging baskets for sale in the greenhouse and the custom bouquets and potted arrangements, owner Kris Ouzts said that very few customers came to buy one thing.
"People come to shop for their mothers and wives," she said. "On Mother's Day, we get to work early, and we probably worked late the night before."
Customers tend to buy roses in February, but for Mother's Day, mixed arrangements are central. It may be difficult to cope with the increase in traffic, but Ms. Ouzts said her son, flower shop manager Jeremy Ouzts, and daughter, chief designer April Ouzts Smith, both did a job. .
"After a hard day, my kids are doing a lot of hard work to make things easier for me," said Kris. "My children work with me every day."
Although the season is more stressful than usual, she says being able to cope with her family is what makes Mother's Day special.
"We are all united and forming a team that day, because it can be quite daunting," Jeremy said.
Debbie Flynn runs Flynn on Maxwell with her husband, Dan. She added that what she is looking forward to this Mother's Day is spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Behind the counter at Flynn on Maxwell, Debbie Flynn chose the way she wanted to articulate a particular sentence.
"Moms enjoy moans every once in a while," she says with a smile.
From rich, rosy reds to sweet, fruity whites, the Flynn walls offer a variety of wines and other things that could make great gifts with a bottle. Chocolates and other snacks can be perfect for a picnic or a romantic night, Flynn said. She saw husbands coming to buy Mother's Day gifts for their wives.
"I know that a guy came in last year and received a bottle of wine and a gift card," she said. "He said he would give his wife a girls' party and a daycare for her, which I found adorable."
On Mother's Day, Flynn said she was a proud mother of four with several grandchildren, including a newborn son who lives outside the city. This year, he comes to visit him on the occasion of Mother's Day: he pulls the diaper bag, the park and everything that goes with raising a newborn with him.
"I know it sounds simple, but it really is not," said Flynn. "I love having my kids and grandchildren, it makes my life easier."
Kimberly Stephens of Blossom Shoes and Such said her ideal Mother's Day would be to be able to keep up her pace in the morning while enjoying a good cup of coffee while getting ready as she wishes.

"Often in our store in particular, mothers and daughters go shopping together," she said.
During the Mother's Day season, she said it was quite common for girls to come in and window shop with their mothers, then come back alone to buy the things they attended.
A week before Mother's Day, Stephens said buyers came to know what they wanted to have. However, over the days, Thursday or Friday, she will see an increase in gift card sales.
Even then, gift cards offer shoppers the opportunity to spend time with their mother at the store, while ensuring they get exactly what she wants.
As for what Stephens wants for her perfect Mother's Day, the mother of two said she was happy that her store would not be open on Sunday. She wants to spend the morning sipping a good cup of coffee and getting ready for the day at her own pace.
"I want to wear make-up and have all the time necessary to prepare myself in peace," she said with a laugh. "I really want to dry my hair, you know? Things like that."
