DK Metcalf caught 10 career-high 177 yards to help the Seattle Seahawks to a 23-17 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night.

Metcalf picked Eagles cornerback Darius Slay throughout the night as Russell Wilson targeted his star wide receiver 13 times overall. Wilson threw a touchdown pass to David Moore and Chris Carson scored in his first game after a four-week absence as the Seahawks improved to 8-3 on the year.

Carson Wentz has been sacked six times by the Seahawks defense. He was held to just 215 passing yards with one touchdown and one interception by what is statistically the worst pass defense in the league. Seattle kept Philadelphia to just 180 clear passing yards after allowing an average of 343.7 yards per game on the evening.

The Eagles stopped Seattle on a pair of fourth attempts in their first two drives to keep the game scoreless early. However, the Eagles’ offense went three times on each of their first five possessions of the game as they were unable to do anything right.

A 52-yard bomb from Wilson to DK Metcalf created a 1-yard touchdown pass to David Moore to give Seattle a 7-0 lead. Chris Carson then broke free for a 16-yard touchdown during the Seahawks’ next practice to take a 14-0 lead.

An intentional stranding call missed by officials in the final first half practice helped fuel the Eagles for the game’s opening goal. A slam over Wentz’s head flew over 20 yards behind the line of scrimmage. After recovering the lost ball, Wentz attempted to throw it with Carlos Dunlap in pursuit. The ball was caught two yards from the line of scrimmage by a Seahawks staff member as the line of scrimmage referee watched the ball fail to return to him. The pitch was ruled to have reached the line somehow, with the Eagles getting the second and 10 instead of the second and over 30.

Philadelphia took the opportunity with Wentz hitting Dallas Goedert for a 3-yard touchdown 12 seconds to go. An extra point missed by Jake Elliott would leave the score at 14-6. Elliott would convert a 42-yard basket in Philadelphia’s first practice in the third quarter to reduce the lead to 14-9.

A 44-yard basket from Jason Myers made it a 17-9 game for the third straight game between the two teams. After Metcalf dropped a touchdown, Myers put in another basket from 33 yards to push the lead to 20-9.

The Eagles attempted to respond and moved the ball to Seattle’s 15-yard line before choosing to do so in the fourth and fourth. Wentz flew a pass to Goedert which was picked up in the end zone by Quandre Diggs to ward off the threat. The Eagles could have thrown a 33-yard field goal to reduce the lead to one point, but Doug Pederson’s aggressive appeal backfired.

Myers would add a third 39-yard field goal with 1:13 left for Seattle.

Wentz then led a nearly meaningless, but not completely, final practice which resulted in a pseudo pitch Hail Mary who was caught for a touchdown by Richard Rodgers. Miles Sanders converted the conversion to two points to reduce the final deficit to just six.

Wilson completed 22 of 31 passes for 230 yards and a touchdown for the Seahawks. Carson only carried eight times for 41 yards on his return to the lineup.
