Monolith removed from southern Utah desert by ‘part unknown’

SOUTHERN UTAH – The now famous “monolith” structure that was discovered last week by a helicopter crew from the Utah Department of Public Safety during a bighorn count in southern UTAH. Utah was kidnapped – but not by government officials.

Riccardo Marino posted on Instagram that he and Sierra Van Meter traveled to the area late Friday night to take pictures, but discovered it was no longer there. He also said he saw a pickup truck with a large object in its bed driving in the opposite direction shortly before they arrived.

A Reddit user also found that he was gone early on Saturday morning.

A spokesperson for the Bureau of Land Management sent the following statement to FOX 13:

“We have received credible reports that the illegally installed structure known as the ‘monolith’ has been removed from public lands of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) by an unknown party. The BLM did not remove the structure which is considered private property. We do not investigate crimes involving private property which are handled by the local sheriff’s office. The structure received international and national attention and we received reports that a person or group had removed it on the evening of November 27th.

More visitors appeared to have piled rocks around the site of the old structure, as well as the top room that had apparently been left behind.
