A 70-year-old California man received $ 80 million in damages for claiming that a weed killer had caused his cancer.
A jury made up of six people in San Francisco returned the amount for Edwin Hardeman on Wednesday. The same jury had already concluded that the Roundup brand weed killer was an important factor in non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

The agribusiness giant, Monsanto, faces thousands of similar lawsuits in the country. According to Monsanto, studies have shown that the active ingredient in its widely used herbicide is safe.
In August, another jury awarded $ 289 million to another man.
DeWayne Johnson, a gardener from a school district of San Francisco Bay, sprayed large quantities of the product, sold under the Roundup brand, into a 50-gallon tank attached to a truck during wind gusts. He added that the product often covered his face and that once a pipe had broken, his entire body was covered.
A judge subsequently reduced the price to $ 78 million and Monsanto appealed.
