Monster processor is 100,000 times more powerful than Xbox Series X

The Xbox Series X and PS5 are set to come out with the most advanced processors ever designed to power a home console, which puts them on par with some modern gaming PCs. While there are rumors of new incoming graphics cards that will blow even those out of the water, a lesser-known chipmaker has already done so.

Meet the Cerebras Wafer Scale Engine Generation 2, an absolutely massive, plate-sized processor with 850,000 cores and 2.6 trillion transistors. While this gargantuan processor, designed for supercomputers, may seem completely independent of upcoming consoles, the chip here and those powering the upcoming Xbox and PlayStation were all made by TSMC using the same 7nm process – so in a way. way, they’re all siblings.Cerebras Wafer Scale Generation 2 engine

The main difference with the Cerebras Wafer Scale Engine Generation 2 is, of course, that it’s just much, much bigger. In fact, compared to the 8 cores and 15.4 billion transistors of the Xbox Series X, the Cerebras chip has 849,992 more cores and 2,598,460,000,000 more transistors. The PS5 and its 8-core processor are also upgraded.

To produce roughly the same level of processing power, you would need some 106,250 next-gen consoles. Hope your wallet is ready.
