Montana’s massive 30-car stack blamed on icy bridge

Frigid conditions on the Yellowstone River Bridge resulted in a stack of 30 cars shortly before noon on Saturday, the Montana Highway Patrol said.

No deaths have been reported, but two people are seriously injured.

Part of I-90 was closed because it took authorities over two hours to tow all the damaged cars away from the scene.

A traveler told the Billings Gazette that when braking to prevent cars from stopping in front of her, a semi-truck struck her vehicle.

“It was like bumper cars,” she told the newspaper.

It was about 30 degrees in Billings when the accident took place.

One of the deadliest multi-vehicle wrecks in recent memory occurred earlier this month when six people were killed and dozens injured in a stack of 133 cars in Fort Worth, Texas.
