PHILADELPHIA – More notes from the citizens stunning 4-3 win at the end of the day against the Phillies.
Juan Soto scored three career goals in the ninth inning or later to win national championship games. All came to Citizens Bank Park:
September 11, 2018: Soto strikes the goal solo to give Nats a lead of 7 to 6 (Nats led 6 to 3).
April 9, 2019: Soto strikes three shots in 10-6 in 10 innings (Nats drags 6-1).
July 13, 2019: Soto scores a two-run homer in the ninth of the 4-3 win (Nats led 3-0).
Soto remembered his circuit here at the start of the season in a decisive victory for the Nats:
"Yeah, that was another example," said Soto. "It was fine. In this situation, we did not fight much against these guys. But now …"
Davey Martinez, the national coach, knows very well what his slugger, 20, is capable of performing.
"He does not fear the big moments, I can tell you, but he's just a good hitter," said Martinez. "He understands that by entering the batter's box he has a plan on what he wants to do."
Soto went 3-for-5 with two-point shooting and two points scored. He knocks .302. Anthony Rendon went 2-for-4 with a point scored to raise his average to .307. Victor Robles went 2-in-4 with a double and RBI.
Even though Aaron Nola was solid, one of the reasons he did not get past the six innings was that Rendon made the count against him all night.
"(D) we do not forget that Anthony had a big base shot to put everything in place," Martinez said. "He was the constant. I already said that, it is the guy who makes out our alignment and he had a big success in this round.
"We wanted to see shots against (Nola), we really did, but he was good and when he can get all his throws, it's hard, it's hard," said Martinez. "But we did a good job of building his shot count and fouling good balls to get him out of the game."
The 30-11 run by nationals is not a joke. This is the best race in the history of the franchise.
"Some time ago, we talked about staying positive and consistent every day," said Martinez. Play baseball every day. I've talked since the spring training [about] do the little things, and do not fight.
"Come ready to play, they do it and they do not stop," continued the skipper. "We talk about it all the time, we can be in the background, but stay in the game. I say we throw it, you guys, hey, we lost a few points, keep fighting, all of this can happen. "
* Left handed Patrick Corbin allowed three runs in six innings, made two but pulled ten out of 103, including 68 for catches. It was the first time since July 2013 that he was organizing two consecutive starts of more than 10 attempts.
"I felt good, I thought I had good control of all the fields tonight," said Corbin. "I would not say that mistakes may be different when choosing the pitch, but other than that I felt good at the beginning of the break and I just tried to make as many zeros. A bullet came out of some jams, the pen came in and also generated a series of zeros and the offensive appeared.

* Martinez has not yet made a decision regarding the starter in Baltimore Tuesday night now that Max Scherzer hit the list of injured with tension in the middle of the back.
"We have not decided who it will be, so we will probably wait (Sunday) to find out," Martinez said. "I talked to Max and we decided he said he felt like yesterday, so we decided to give him these days. We were able to go back three days later, so he is available, hopefully, this weekend. "
